Raised panel cabinet doors

A shaped centre panel that stands proud of the frame. Traditional, and unapologetic about it.

What a raised panel door is

A raised panel door has a centre panel machined so its field sits forward of the surrounding bevel, catching light along the shoulder. Most of the doors here pair that with a moulded or mitered frame, where the four frame pieces meet at 45 degrees like a picture frame rather than butting square.

This is the profile that carries a formal kitchen — cherry, a warm stain, a glaze settled into the recesses. It is also the profile most sensitive to finish: the same door in a bright white paint reads quite differently from the same door in a saddle stain with a hand-applied glaze, because the shadow line is doing the work rather than the colour.

The honest part

What you are accepting

Every recess in a raised panel is somewhere grease and dust collect, and a mitered frame has four corner joints on the face where a butt-jointed frame has none. In a kitchen that gets cooked in hard, this is genuinely more work to keep looking new than a flat panel.

It is also the profile most likely to date. A heavily moulded raised panel in a mid-brown glaze is legible as a particular decade in a way a plain shaker is not. That is fine if it is what you want — it is worth knowing before it is on thirty cabinet fronts.

Wellborn Forest Hamilton Raised Panel cabinet door in maple with a wheat stain — a stepped and coved frame around a raised centre panel

Hamilton RP

Raised panelFull overlay5-piece drawer option

Door front photography is supplied by the manufacturers and is representative of the profile and the finish, not of a specific door. Wood species vary in grain and colour from piece to piece — the rustic species deliberately so — and printed and on-screen colour never matches a finished door exactly. Order a sample door before you commit to a kitchen.

Put one in your hand

A door front in your hand under your own kitchen lights tells you more than any screen will. We keep samples of both lines at the Granby showroom — bring a countertop chip and a photo of the room and we will put them together.
